Kalu Waterfall Trek from Pune is a guided monsoon trek through the forested valleys of the Malshej Ghat region in Maharashtra. Kalu Waterfall is widely described as one of the tallest seasonal waterfalls in the Malshej region. During the monsoon, water descends through multiple levels of the steep Sahyadri cliffs, surrounded by mist, green valleys, seasonal streams and dense forest. The current BookNTrek itinerary follows a nature trail through the Thitbi–Malshej region and reaches a planned viewpoint approximately 1.5 km away from Kalu Waterfall. This is important: the current package is a Kalu Waterfall viewpoint trek. It does not promise direct access to the waterfall base. The trail includes forest paths, village sections, mud, wet rocks, gradual ascents and descents and seasonal water crossings. The trek is graded moderate with medium endurance because monsoon conditions can make otherwise manageable terrain slippery and physically demanding. BookNTrek operates this as a one-day trip from Pune. The Pune package includes private AC bus transportation, breakfast with tea, unlimited vegetarian lunch, trek-leader assistance, permit and forest-entry charges, trek expertise and basic first-aid support. The route, viewpoint and operating schedule may change because of heavy rainfall, rising river levels, road conditions, forest restrictions or local safety instructions. Kalu Waterfall Trek is known for the scale of its monsoon landscape rather than a summit or fort destination. As the trail enters the Malshej region, participants experience mist-covered valleys, dense greenery, seasonal streams and waterfalls appearing across the surrounding cliffs. The planned viewpoint offers a panoramic perspective of Kalu Waterfall and the surrounding Sahyadri valley — the waterfall's multiple cascading sections are easier to appreciate from a safe distance than from directly below the cliffs. Highlights of the trek include panoramic views of Kalu Waterfall and the surrounding valley, mist-covered Malshej Ghat landscapes, dense seasonal greenery, forest and village walking sections, seasonal streams and smaller waterfalls, dramatic cliffs and valley formations, and plenty of monsoon photography opportunities — all on a guided one-day departure from Pune suited to fit beginners and regular trekkers alike, with the experience centered on forest, valley and waterfall scenery rather than a fort summit. With BookNTrek, simply select the Pune-to-Pune package and report at your chosen pickup point — private AC bus transportation to the trek region and back to Pune is included, and final pickup maps, vehicle details and trek-leader information are shared before departure. If you're driving, the general route from Pune towards Malshej Ghat passes through Chakan, Rajgurunagar, Manchar, Narayangaon and Junnar, continuing towards the exact base village or reporting location shared by the organiser. Don't rely only on a general "Kalu Waterfall" map search, since different routes lead to different viewpoints and villages — confirm road conditions and parking before starting, particularly during heavy rain. Public buses run from Pune towards Junnar, Alephata and the Malshej Ghat region, though the final village or trailhead usually requires additional local transport, and return transport can be limited in the evening — independent travellers should confirm the exact route, last-mile transport and return options before travelling.

Safety Guidelines

Wear trekking or sports shoes with strong grip.
Remain with the organised group throughout the trail.
Do not attempt to descend towards the waterfall base.
Do not enter the Kalu River, waterfall pools or fast-flowing streams.
Cross seasonal water sections only when instructed by the trek leaders.
Do not climb wet or unstable rocks for photographs.
Stay away from cliff edges, landslide-prone slopes and loose boulders.
Do not cross safety ropes, barriers or restricted areas.
Do not take unapproved shortcuts through the forest.
Carry 2-3 litres of drinking water.
Carry personal medicines and disclose relevant medical conditions before booking.
Keep phones, wallets and valuables inside waterproof pouches.
Alcohol, smoking and illegal substances are prohibited.
Do not litter or disturb local communities, plants or wildlife.
The route may be changed, postponed or cancelled because of heavy rainfall, rising water levels, landslides, roadblocks or official restrictions.
Basic toilet facilities may be available near the base village; toilets are not available throughout the forest trail.
Changing facilities near the village may be basic — carry a towel, spare clothes and a separate waterproof bag for wet clothing.
Mobile network connectivity may be weak or unavailable on parts of the trail and near the valley.
The organising team carries basic first-aid supplies, but this does not replace personal medication, professional medical treatment or travel insurance.
Small shops may be available near villages or roads, but don't depend on shops being open during the trek.
Wear full sleeves and full track pants — this protects your skin from sun, thorns, insects and prickles.
